An Oahu chocolate tour at 21 Degrees Estate starts where chocolate starts: on a cacao tree. We're a family owned, veteran operated farm in Kahalu'u, between Kaneohe Bay and the Ko'olau Mountains.
Before you book, learn more about what the tour includes, how you’ll be spending your time, and about what makes us the best chocolate farm tour on Oahu.
Our tour covers the full path from cacao tree to chocolate bar in about 2 to 2.5 hours. One of the owners leads most tours, so you hear the story from the people who planted the trees.
You start in the orchard. Cacao grows here next to canoe crops that early Polynesian voyagers brought to Hawaii, along with seasonal fruit like lychee, ulu, apple banana, starfruit, and mango.
Next, your guide cracks open a ripe cacao pod and passes it around. Most guests expect bitter chocolate. Instead, the fresh fruit tastes sweet and mild.
Why doesn't it taste like chocolate yet? Fresh cacao seeds need fermentation before that flavor develops. Your guide walks you through each stage after harvest: fermentation, drying, and roasting.
You can see the full tour outline on our Oahu Chocolate Tours page.

On our farm, the tasting happens in a shaded pavilion after the orchard walk. You'll sample our single origin estate chocolate, cacao nibs, and cacao shell tea.
We also pour a taste of Kahalu'u Gold, a light polyfloral honey our own bees produce on the estate.
Your guide will help turn you into a chocolate connoisseur. You’ll learn to pick out flavor notes and tell commodity chocolate apart from premium craft chocolate.
Two words that you’ll learn to love: Single origin. Cacao from our farm has a flavor profile unlike cacao grown even 10 miles away, because the soil and microclimate differ.
We do believe so, and most visitors to the farm agree! Your ticket covers time on a working farm, a guide who grows the cacao, and a full guided tasting at the end.
An Oahu chocolate tour on a farm also gives you time to ask the grower questions.
Families get one more perk. Our baby mini goats and miniature horse often become the highlight of the day for younger kids.
Our prices depend on age group:

Does the operator grow cacao on the property? A real farm tour takes you into the orchard, not past a photo display.
Who leads the tour? On our farm, the owners lead most tours, and they tend the trees every day.
Will you taste fresh cacao? If no one opens a pod, you miss one of the best surprises of the visit.
Does the chocolate state its origin? Hawaii has clear labeling rules. Only chocolate made from cacao grown on a specific island can carry that island's name. Blends must contain at least 51% Hawaii cacao and list the exact percentage.

Multigenerational families love visiting the farm together. The pace of our tour is relaxed, the tasting takes place in the shade, strollers are welcome. We also keep a golf cart for guests who can't walk or stand for long.
Food lovers get a lot out of the tasting, especially if you already enjoy wine or coffee tastings.
Planning for a bigger group? Groups of 25 or more can book a private tour outside our regular schedule. Teachers and homeschool organizers can ask about our student field trip option.
